Get a good muzzle brake, and it wont have any recoil at all any more

I have one. yes like shooting my .308 better. it kicks like a mule. Mine is a Remington 700 . You really don't notice the kick out hunting. its when your at the range trying to get it dialed in. After the 3rd or 4th shot I've had enough.

Deadly weapon. My 300 has taken a lot of game. But mine is a Ruger 77 which is somewhat light it really punishes you when you target shoot.

Don't have one, but was around a few back in the day,

Rem 700 classic kicked like a mule. Knew 2 guys who had them.

Ruger stainless/synthetic stock was a pussy cat by comparison. Still more kick than an 06 but very manageable.

My brother has a Tikka 300 win mag that he won and uses deer hunting. He says he better have a good 1st shot because he might flinch on the 2nd. I have a savage Axis .308 witha 3x9 redfield that has been a great deer gun.

I have one. It was almost not enjoyable to shoot until a put a suppressor on it. Now it barley kicks at all. The can mounts to a break and I haven’t shot it with just the break but I imagine that helps a bunch.

I have one. A ruger m77 Hawkeye. I've shot several deer with it. I personally think my 7mm magnum kicked worse. As another poster said, you don't notice the recoil hunting

I have a. 338 Win. Mag, in a Ruger #1. Pretty light rifle but it's magnported and a good recoil pad. My 5' 3" wife can shoot it, but probably not all day...
With a Nosler partition bullet it will blow a hole through a 1/2 plate that looks like it was cut with a torch...

Embarrass WI
I have a couple, a Winchester 70 walnut/blue, and a Ruger M77 laminated/stainless. They both shoot well. There's some recoil but it's a hunting rifle. I used my Ruger to kill a moose in Alberta last fall.

If you want one, get one. If you decide later that the recoil is too much for you(which is unlikely, you portray yourself as pretty tough)you can always sell it again.

My 300 win mag I had built several years ago. We were at the range when my son was 9 years old, he was pounding 220 grain bullets down range one after another and laughing his butt off. A friend couldn't believe a 9-year-old was shooting a win mag.
The muzzle brake just works that good. I compare the recoil to a 223 ar.
The brake was built by a friend who is one of the top rifle smiths in the nation.

North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast
Perfect caliber for cape buffalo and moose.
Also good for 1/4 mile shots and bone jarring recoil.

Get you one!!

Browning Abolt .Worst mistake I made was shooting it 16 times rapidly when I got it. beat me up pretty bad but have used for several deer and never felt a thing

Great caliber and a nice rifle. My wife has one in a weatherby and it doesnt buck like my browning does.

I have one ,and as said kicks pretty hard, ( model 70 Win ). You might try a .300 WSM, same kind of performance, but a little tamer, and in a short action rifle

Wyoming

The .300 WM has the same or less recoil energy than my .338 WM, which is about 30 to 35 foot-pounds, depending on bullet weight and loaded velocity.

But the .300 WM has a characteristic that makes people perceive it as having more recoil: the velocity of the recoil impulse. It feels "sharper" and "more painful" than the same recoil energy delivered at a slower velocity.

So I would ask: Why are you looking at a .300 WM? To take longer shots? At what? If you're hunting anything up to about the size of elk, and all you want is "longer shots," then I would recommend looking at something like the 7mm Remington Magnum, which feels much easier to shoot, but with the proper bullet selection, you can send a 150 to 180 grain bullet downrange which will easily take anything up to the size of elk.

If you're going to hunt moose, grizzly bears, brown bears, bison, etc - then I'd skip right over the .300 WM and look at a .338 WM, or something similarly mid-sized with bullets of at least 250 grains.

The other alternatives if you want to reduce recoil:

- put a mercury recoil reducer in your buttstock

- get a silencer on the muzzle

- last option (which I really don't like to recommend) is to get a muzzle brake

- or simply make the rifle weigh more.

Edit: One last issue which I don't mention enough about recoil: A big part of how well you can handle recoil is how well a long arm fits you. Unless you're about 5'9" to 5'10", most factory-sized rifles (and shotguns) probably don't fit you well.

I would get a 7mm Mag. Dad had a 7mm Mag. Barely kicked. Now I had a 264 Winchester magnum. Now that thing kicked like a mule. 120 grain bullet at 3800 fps. Factor ammunition would blow fire out the gun for 2 or 3 feet. Nope. Give me the 7mm Mag.

I saw a video for a 7mm PRC. Maybe a little better than the 7mag.

300 winnie is a fine round, lots of ammo options. If you’re gonna order a new one, just make sure you get it with 5/8 muzzle threads. That way can add a brake or suppressor. I was a brake guy for a long time, but got my first muffler this last spring, it’s the only way to shoot.

Correct but nobody does that. Most people don't buy guns to modify them. I'm guessing 99% of us use them as we buy them.

I have 2 Winchester M70's, identical except for caliber. For me, the perceived recoil is less with the 300 Win Mag than the 30.06. Doesn't seem logical, but that's what my shoulder tells me.

My 30.06 is a semi auto 742 Remington and that definitely softens up the recoil. The 300 is a bolt action.

Are you a hunter ?  There are dozens of rifle calibers, they all kill game.
Why the question ?

I have one. Its a Remington model 700, very accurate and very deadly on game. Ive used mine mostly for moose hunting. I also have a 6.5x55 Swede in a Tikka T3X. Also very accurate and deadly on game, not as deadly as the 300 on moose, but much easier to shoot. Im heading to Africa to hunt plains game and im taking the 6.5, its just so much nicer to shoot.

Have had one for many years. Also own a 308 both Winchester. I’m not a big guy but it’s never bothered me

It’s left a large exit hole if it hits bone. Unless it’s being used on big game, a 308 will do the job and ammo is cheaper. Others in our hunting party have always commented that they can tell who shot going by the sound.

The Monte Carlo stock fits my cheek nice and is comfortable

I have one in a SAKO M995, TRG-S. Recoil is stout but controllable with 200 grain Nosler Partitian handloads. Had one in a Ruger No. 1 before that and that one hurt shooting 200 grain Barnes X handloads. Both were my elk rifles. My old Remington 760 in .270 was the worst to shoot with it's hard plastic recoil pad.
