Subject: Markets tonight?

Malta, Illinois

What are the guesses on tonight's markets?  It would seem that the broiler is going to be turned up on a large portion of the cornbelt for a few days.  One positive is that it is going to be extremely humid with high dew points.  What is the positive of that you ask?  While miserable for humans, it will make the heat a little more bearable for plants.  I think our area will survive pretty well since we aren't exactly hurting for moisture.  I wouldn't say we have excess but we have had rain recently and there is some subsoil moisture.  I took a drive today and any area that missed the recent rains was already showing some signs of stressing but some of that is things just starting to turn.  Nitrogen programs are really standing out right now too.  Split programs are really shining and those who dumped it all on in the form of liquid this spring are sucking air.  If this mini heat wave only lasts a few days as predicted I don't think it is going to do too much more in this area other than hurry harvest along.  Those who are short on moisture are likely to see things slip quite a bit and lose some bushels.  It will be interesting to see what things look like by about Thursday or Friday.
