All of this foolishness is just a crutch to patch up an obvious flaw of a vehicle that needs a transmission and de-coupling device that keeps the engine running when it isn't propelling the vehicle. Just for the record: I've owned and driven several vehicles that use the Auto start/stop and I hated it. The manufacturers put it on because it does lower fuel consumption by a tiny bit. Good example of the low hanging fruit of better mileage having already been picked. It adds a bit of complexity but not nearly as much as adopting a hybrid power-train, which is also a crutch used to obtain a bit better mileage. Like all crutches, that will eventually be cast aside. Just takes a while. |
