Well I am going to get toasted for this but in a few years after you get over your butt hurt you will thank him for doing you a favor.... I agree that he should have talked it over before he started and if he doesn't follow thru with the new fence you have something to complain about but I get really disgusted when I see people crying about somebody taking the initiative to clean something up.. I would take any neighbor of mine coffee and donuts if he wanted to clean a fence row that borders our properties!
It was not a favor, It wasn't an eyesore full of rubbish that needed cleaning up, plus neither of us run livestock. It was about 150 yards that extended from the woods to the highway. We both needed the fencerow for privacy, a windbreak, and a property line. As I said earlier, it was almost zero maintenance. Now we have a fence that will look way worse than the previous fencerow if it's not maintained. So we both went from 3 benefits down to one. Plus the maintenance. If he had come over to discuss his plans, I would have worked with him where it would be beneficial to both of us. I would have been fine if he wanted to clean enough of my side to install and maintain his fence, provided the fence went back in the same place.
