All the new tech on vehicles is testing for self-driving cars. Adaptive cruise, lane departure, door safeties and on and on are baby steps to cars that drive themselves.
I go to training classes with Delco and in one class, the training engineer told us about new safety features in Japan and France that use air bag technology on the hood. Apparently in these 2 countries, they have a lot of pedestrians getting hit crossing the street. The hood is designed in a pedestrian impact to fire cylinders in the hood hinge shoving the rear of the hood upward 6 inched to soften the blow when the person lands on it.
So, you pull in the garage and bump the mower a little hard and it costs 6k to fix your hood.
Ain't technology grand.
