 Pittsburg, Kansas | Yep. A 20 dollar bill from then would spend as 20 dollars today. A gold double eagle twenty dollar piece (one ounce with some copper to make it harder and wear better) would be worth well more in dollars. The land I live on and inherited from my my family in 1870 paid 20 dollars an acre from the railroad right of way. A twenty dollar bill or a 20 dollar gold piece. The value (measured in dollars) land and gold moved much more in lockstep than the dollar and land. Not perfect, but a heck of a lot closer.
