NW Iowa | I did read what a couple of web sites had to say about this. The Mayo site used doctor terminology that I had to decipher. The Mayo site leaned toward having it fixed using very drab language. Another site I got into was put out by a surgeon who specializes in hernias. This doctor claimed it’s better to get it fixed sooner rather than later for two reasons. Reason #1 is it won’t heal itself. Reason #2 states we are getting older every day and the older we are the longer the recuperation.
I don’t know if location has anything to do with the urgency to have it fixed. Mine is lower right just above the crease between the belly and hip. It comes out of the bottom of a 5” incision just to the right of the belly button from exploratory surgery. The appendix was ruptured but it was in the middle of the abdomen instead of in the right side so the doctors cut me up the middle to look around in there. This was in 1975 before modern scanning methods were available. What I want to hear is real life experiences good or bad.
