One past scam with cashiers checks is they take one out, make a counterfeit, send you the counterfeit, it passes through your bank.
Then they present the real cashiers check, it clears, the banks eventually sort out which one was real and which was counterfeit, and claw the money back from you. This happens later than the normal check clearing waiting period.
I’m not sure if they got this issue resolved by now so it doesn’t work that way any more. It was an issue in the past.
