NW Iowa | That’s the farmer name, stomach hernia is the human version. I am sure there is a long lettered medical term to describe it. I have had one for all of three years or maybe a little more since I started feeling it when I bend over to tie my shoes. A gastroenterologist found it a little under two years ago when she was squeezing my belly in a diverticulitis exam. The word hernia was unceremoniously spoken while she was pressing down but she just kept on pressing without saying another word. It didn’t take me long to repeat the word hernia to her. She calmly said it is coming out of that old vertical surgery scar and stated they try not to make vertical scars like mine now because of the chance of a hernia leaking out. Nothing more was mentioned about the hernia. It had been creating a small amount of pain but I blamed the pain on the diverticulitis. I had a surgery for the diverticulitis and that problem is now gone, hopefully for good. Now the hernia pain is gradually increasing but it is nowhere near debilitating, it’s just annoying. It is not visible yet.
So now the question: how have you guys handled a stomach hernia? Is it something to get concerned about or do I ignore it? I have done a little reading about it on the net and from what I gather it’s not serious unless the gut gets strangulated. The symptoms of that is severe pain and sickness. I have a feeling that is not common though. So what do you say? | |
