Sioux County, NWIA

There is nothing in our state today that will approve the pipeline on the state level. The only way forward will have to be forced by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Our legislature took a sharp turn against it in the June primary. The only legislation that has been passed has been put on the November ballot as a referred measure. I would say today that bill will be defeated soundly. It seems the majority of South Dakotans don’t want it.

I have a story for you. It does not begin “once upon a time” as it is actual, not a fairy tale.

A local town has a US highway that passes through it. For some years it was 4 lanes, then it was switched to 2 lane with a center turn lane. At some point the mafia that runs the town got the idea that it would be really cool to have 4 lanes plus a center turning lane/boulevard thing. This would require millions of dollars of reconstruction as the throughway for the current highway was not wide enough to accommodate 5 lanes. The idea was put up for the town citizens to vote on something like 10 years ago, and it was voted down hard. Guess what project started summer of 2023?? There has not been a vote about it since the first defeat . . .
