I started farming in the LDP days, why are the loan rates so low ? Why haven’t they raised them at least to inflation adjusted levels?
LDPs are trade-distorting subsidies. They’re supposed to be limited under WTO rules.
Keeping the loan rate low keeps us under the WTO allowed limits.
They also distort market signals. They really don’t need to be much higher. |
