Fruita CO | August 20, my good friend Chuck passed from Leukemia at the age of 81...I met him when I hired on at the John Deere dealer, and knew him for 52 years.
Our first big project was turbo and intercooler on his 5020, the first one in the valley, with 6030 parts. Yes, it can be done...pulled 175 HP for many years.
He came to own every model of 2-cylinder JD tractor from D's to an 840 scraper, and later ones up to an 8630. Im not even sure what the number was, over 60 i would guess, engines up to a 25 HP Reid, and a stationary steam engine.
He, along with his brother, was the main force in the Western Slope Antique Power club and the Roberts Farm Show.
Chuck never did anything halfway, when he started something it was balls out, tractors, guns, hunting arrowheads, or whatever...he was lucky to survive his younger wilder days...a hell of a story teller too.
So, I could go on forever about our experiences together, but as I've been saying, the world will be a lot less fun without ol' Charlie in it...
