St. Joseph, Champaign County, IL | As others have suggested, I'd look to consolidating township departments, before giving it all to the county. My situation is different here in Champaign County, of course, than the OP's. I'd have a hard time letting the county board, dominated by the one party elected from the cities of Champaign and Urbana, make the final decisions affecting all the roads in the county, that weren't the state's. There are some of those board members that have no clue what does/ does not happen beyond the boundaries of the twin cities.
Sure, some of them can/ could be educated, but how long does that take? With the turnover that's been happening on the board, you'd no more get them educated, and they'd be gone and the process would start over again. There are also those, that I'm convinced, could never be educated. |
