Boone Co. Iowa | Yield checks here locally have me confused. Most barely over 200-210. Pretty optimal weather and lawn looks fantastic. Timely rains and no real cracks in ground at all.
My take is as some others have stated - wet spring and some loss of N. The guys that really pour the coals (of N) might have better yields but even with little heat during pollination and what has been pretty cool August to date (record attendance at Iowa State Fair), I think corn yield nationally will not be as high as USDA is calling for.
Some silage was adjusted at 258 nearby, so maybe hand counts in field are off…..maybe lack of any drought will make national yield higher than expected. | |
