Farmington, Mo | All the counties in my immediate area have been organized as a single county wide road and bridge department as long as I’ve been around.
Our county is pretty heavily populated and has a huge tax base so it’s not the norm. Two district commissioners and a presiding commissioner…lots of good employees with competitive pay and benefits. They seem competent enough to build new bridges and box culverts in house as well as doing there own paving, mowing and tree trimming.
Not sure if the model is applicable to lower population counties, but seems to work well here. | |
