ZCZFarmer - 8/22/2024 20:57 We haven’t even discussed 0’s yet. MN harvested acres dropped the same percent this August as they did final last year. They made no effort yet to compensate for the harvested acres. Couple hundred thousand seems plausible. I seem to have 5% ish gone across my acres when I normally have 0-1. Extrapolate that out across counties and in MN alone adds up quick at 185 bu/ac

Don't know at all what to think, since I haven't had boots on the ground there, but I know their methodology- 35 paces in- and that's fine.   If they're going to do this, they need something simple and consistent or it's pointless.  I'm not mad about that, it's cool.   I also have way, way more yield maps from excessively wet planting seasons than I care to, and most of the horrible spots are further away from the road than that.  MOST miles of two-lane highway are not paved because they are in the worst-drained topography, and MOST convenient field driveways to park at are not at the worst-drained topography.

I've looked at some old PFT numbers vs. USDA finals, and I think there is a correlation to be drawn which says they might more consistently measure in dry conditions than monsoon conditions.    But right now, the weather is too nice for me to pour enough bourbons to sit in front of the computer and go down that rathole for hours and get nothing done tomorrow!
