Yes, everything will be more expensive, more work, more cutting etc. It will make the square foot price similar to a much smaller house, overall, not that big a deal if that's what you want.
"The skeleton being impacted" did this mean other than cost? You could say a complex roof is more likely to leak, really the roofers are more likely to underbid it by basing off of size and not accounting for the details, then getting lazy and "cutting corners". The corners make everything stronger, as noted, but also more likely to leak outside. The frame and interior shouldn't matter if the architect does his job and the framers follow the plan. I'd wonder if his biggest concern is getting a reputation as being difficult by contractors, leading to higher prices for his jobs in the future? You'd think subs would look at jobs individually, but they will also add a "gut feeling" surcharge to that architects bids in the future. |
