Subject: RE: New home build and basement....

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

hoosier_red - 8/22/2024 10:44 Has anybody put in a full basement lately? Our architect was concerned that our plan has 16 corners. He mentioned not only the pour being more expensive but the skeleton of the house all the way up to the roof line being impacted. Any general thoughts are appreciated. TIA.

Previous answers are all correct......more corners = more $ on every single level. It simply takes more material and more labor.  It kinda makes me smile.......when we built (ranch-style) years ago, I had to lobby pretty hard to get some sort of break in the roofline so it wasn't just one running shot from corner to corner. So our garage is 4' less wide than the house and basement so that I got my roofline break!
