Drop in inventory value coupled with budgets done with $5 corn can cause a big swing. Say 500ac of corn, 200bu = 100,000bu. Depending on basis it would be possible to end up selling '23 corn for $4 instead of balance sheet saying $5. -$100,000. Current crop put in with budget of $5. Might need to sell a bunch in the fall to cover cash flow...

Even for a "small" farmer, can end up $200,000 behind where you thought you'd be a year ago real quick.

I'd hate to be even a 2000ac farmer that didn't market well this year. $1mil swing in projections vs realized will definitely happen for some this year.
