Am the farthest thing from being a democrat, but believe that step up in basis should be eliminated in exchange for eliminating estate taxes.
Is not fair when a person that is above the estate tax limits pays estate taxes on assets that already has had income tax paid on them, when it comes time to settle the estate..Which amounts to around 75% tax on every $ earned between income tax and estate taxes.
