Well, I farm in the Nauvoo area, so it's often interesting.
The New York area is where as the story goes, Joe Smith dug up the golden tablets, after a dream where the white Native American Angel Moroni appeared to him and hinted at where the golden tablets were buried. If you're interested in some of their history, go to youtube and search. If you like some added humor, the South Park episodes are pretty funny, which they researched well first so they are pretty darn accurate historically.
Yes, some can be very arrogant, as many local store merchants have had tourist come to the register with what they're going to buy but first ask if they are Saints. If they say no, some leave what they were going to buy right there at the counter and leave. Not too many local merchants left. Nauvoo currently can't even support a grocery store.
Then there are many, the great majority, who are as nice as anyone you'll ever meet, or in other words, like any other group, all kinds of personalities exist.
I was on the fire dept. when the local Temple was being built, so we got to tour it then, but I didn't go during the open house.
Yes, I've had the experience of having the bride's Dad stay with us at the farm while his daughter was getting married in the Temple as he wasn't Mormon so he couldn't attend. Often they'll have a 2nd more personal type wedding event where everybody can attend, as there might be several Temple weddings a day.

When they were driven out long ago, they wanted to find a place out West where they could form their own country. They started their own militia in Utah, and were a little paranoid the Gov't would invade them, which led to the unfortunate Mountain Meadow Massacre. Well, they tried to blame it on the Native Americans, you know, the actual non white ones, which were colored that way as a punishment from God according to Mormon teachings. Anyway, I've already said too much, lol, but do occasionally kid the wife maybe it's not too late for us to convert. Having your own planet to try an populate with IDK, 40 or more wives ....... , kinda sounds like an interesting afterlife.
