| Pretty damn sad story how the governor of Illinois treated the mormans. Figured there was no way they could be such a thriving, flourishing community, so he trumped up counterfeiting charges against Joseph Smith and his brother and had them jailed. An angry mob ambushed the jail and killed them both. Governor gave the next guy in charge, Brigham Young about 3 days to get out of town, or he’d send in the troops. Thus the exodus. The town of Nauvoo is something to behold. They weren’t hurting anybody, and didn’t deserve the treatment they recieved. Bonpas sounds as jealous as the governor. | |
