After going to the Illinois State Fair this past week, I think there needs to be a big push for health and nutrition classes in schools. The number of morbidly obese young people walking around was astounding! In 20 years the health care industry will be much more strained that it is now. Very sad.
When I was in school 15 - 20 years ago, they taught a fair bit about health and nutrition. Mostly BS in my opinion nowadays. The food pyramid is the reason so many young people are obese. I give credit to Mom's love of butter and bacon and Dad's preference for beef for my health.
Growing up we never had a meal without beef or pork and always lots of butter/cream to go around. My siblings and I were always healthier, stronger, and thinner than any of our associates. At the time I assumed it was genetics, but with what I know now, it was the animal fat and animal protein that the food pyramid said was bad and borderline bad, respectively.
