This is a side topic to the original post, but all of the North America grids are AC at 60Hz. Only the interconnections are DC, and these are just to pass power between the grids without having to synchronize the AC waves on both grids. Interconnections DC lines are quite short. There are a couple DC long haul transmission lines also for hauling hydro power to CA, but these are not grids, nor grid interconnects.
