They can say not much rain in the 8-14 but tjat means very little. That is actually when we get most of our best rains.....when they say nothing is coming. If they say it is going to rain most of the next week, tjat's when you need to worry. Storm front blows up 20 miles east of you on the first rain forecast and then poof, they take the rain out of the next 4 days too.

Keep your chin up. These guys have no clue about actually needing rain. They just want rain. I wouldn't trade them for a second anyway. Whenever I get into their areas and see the crop service type buildings that ring the small town like suburbs and the thousands of white pickups with quite often 6 or more parked at a corn field, I just relish where I live and the isolation of it all.

It is what they are used to and if they like it, more power to them. Someone is paying for all those white pickups though, and it isn't the local cafe in town. Cost structures are very different and they spend a lot of money on that last 30 bushels I assume, so they have to have it. We are just glad it at least made 30 bushels sometimes because there is enough residue to keep the ground from blowing, maybe.

Not totally dogging the high yield corn club, I understand somewhat, it is just a totally different life out here where you hope you can at least keep ear leaf and up somewhat green and hope 110 degrees doesn't crispy your flag leaf and tassel. I don't like all the weather we get, but I kind of like the life of equal chances of 50 bu corn and 175 bu corn. Makes life exciting. I hope Indiana gets the rain they want and if history is any guide, they probably will, just have to fret about it first though.
