S Illinois | Feed the world? I don’t grow anything that is directly consumed by humans. Perhaps the issue is understanding what we actually grow(make). We make bulk inputs of which are made into human consumable food. Corn and soybean growing has become an “easy” profession where acquiring land economically on which to operate is the biggest determinant as to entry and profitability. As such prices drift to COP.
Take pride in one’s profession but don’t make grain farming into some occupation to be put on a pedestal. We don’t make direct to consumer products. So we trade off that responsibility of finding consumers for our products for the ease of having not to deal with the public. | |
