| I would guess there were more but they were of lower intensity because there were more, by that, I mean less fuel.
Now, we have been suppressing fire for over 100 years, so now when there’s a fire it is much more intense.
Also, this isn’t really new. The Peshtigo Fire in 1871 burned 1.2 million acres in upper Michigan and Wisconsin in approximately 24 hours killing between 5000-15,000 people. 3,000 are buried in a mass grave.
The Big Burn in 1910 burned 3 million acres in 3 days.
There are numerous big fires through Russia in the 1800s through early 1900s. | |
