 39.48, -82.98 | That 20 to 22% range is my favorite. It's a sweet spot that balances speed and field losses. It's also easier to handle at the bin than corn that might need two passes through the dryer or corn that's almost dry and prone to over-drying.
So far as phantom loss, that's a topic you see here every year. I've pulled out of a field and returned a week or two later and the loss was noticeable. Ear drop? A white cloud of corn flour following the combine? Something else? It would be nice to see a thorough re-examination. Seems most of the research is decades old and miss some plausible possibilities. | |
