Chris, did the massey keep the unload auger design like what the A series and that era of Agco axial machines have? Seemed like a good idea that works but still not as nice as Gleaners.

Most folks don't realize that in terrace and hill country Gleaner is the only one you can fold back without hitting the cart if you get in a predicament. A longer auger would be nice to calm the guys that say it aint long enough but doubt it will happen. Engineers weren't allowed to test the durability of the one they had a few years ago developing a 50ft dyna flex. They had a one that folded after it was cradled. Maybe they'll do that to this new series at somepoint.

No, they dumped that old slow, grinding, open gear turret that came from the MF combines after the A65/A75 and MF 9690/9790. The 9005 combines, starting with the 9895/A85 had a grain cart style folding auger that was a great idea, and worked well enough in that platform. Had shear bolt protection, and would continue to empty what it could with one auger what I remember. Like I said above, not a bad design, but I think there are better mousetraps at this point. Maybe I should say I don't just want that grain bin and auger moved to the Gleaner, but if they could come up with a modified version that worked well, I would be for it. The Gleaner grain tank bottom is much lower than the old Axial, and you'd have the same clearance issue at the side of the combine without a lot of modification, and then I'm worried the complexity would get silly because of the angles involved in a grain cart style auger.

The old MF Turret auger that was offered on the R Series machines needed scrapped, but yes, in Terrace country, and big hills, it was taller. But boy was it slow, painful to work on, wore parts like crazy, and just an antique design.

Chris

At the time the grain cart style was the fastest rate of unload if I'm not mistaken. All of mine unloaded pretty dang quick. I know from experience that topping of a almost full cart, you didn't take your eyes off the auger or pile for very long or you'll be replacing shear bolts. Biggest drawback was it is a fixed location. No moving it back and forth to match the cart speed or whatever. Having a single chain and no gearboxes was a big positive to me at least. I had trouble with my first 9560 in beans putting too many pods in the tank which caused the safety grate above the auger opening to clog up. Once we got the right combination of concaves and separator grates in that issue went away.
