Subject: RE: Milk taxi

Bethel, PA
We have an Urban Milk Shuttle.

We bought a used one and brought it home and plugged it in and it soon lit on fire. We got it out immediately but the damage was done. The reason it lit on fire was that the switch that controls the heater didn't work properly and it tried heating when there was no liquid in the tank and when it wasn't even turned on. We took it to a dealer and they said they couldn't repair it. But they were willing to pull all the parts off that were still good and put them on a new unit. That saved us about $3,000 off the price of a new unit but since we had paid $5000 for the used one we still lost money over buying a new one up front. So be very careful about about buying anything used. A farmer that had also gotten a used one told me that he should have gotten a new one from the start and I wish we had too. If you do buy used, have a dealer go over it before you try to use it.

We like how much more consistent it makes calf feeding, but it is a lot of money to fork out to take milk to calves.
