| My favorite pencil nozzle boot stories involve both the parts department side and the shop. From the parts side the old parts guy would always lay 4 or 6 new boots on the counter as he knew the customer had either a 3020 or 4020. Customer says “I only need one of those”. Parts man never argued as he smiled and wrote out the ticket, knowing full well customer would be back for the rest, in one hour, day or week depending how far away customer lived. On the shop side normally the “in a hurry customer” drove the tractor to the shop and decide to change boots out in the parking lot. Tractors with original voltage regulator/ generator setup were very vulnerable to wiring harness fire when the pliers got into the terminals and smoked the regulator points. Of course they were never reddy for that kind of excitement and by the time both batteries got unhooked, the little boot repair job turned pretty expensive repair. |
