| Some of these are mention above but I will list what I do.
Cover under bottom feed roll and side covers for top feed roll.
New or good shear bar because husks can be difficult to cut and you end up with stringy earlage that's hard to pack.
Set feed roll speed in the field on the fly however you like it, I have run 8mm-24mm
Slim the cover under the knifes as close as you can, just so it doesn't touch or corn that is wet will plug, this is not an issue with silage.
Roll processor out and check the gap at the tightest setting, make sure it is the same as the indicator. There are manuel stops that have to be removed or adjusted as the rolls wear. You want to be able to adjust processor so the rolls almost touch.
Adjust blower/accelerator as tight as possible or wet corn will plug, other corn will dripple out of the spout when not feeding it heavy, this is also not an issue with silage.
These are all simple adjustments anybody can do with just a few hand tools.
If this is a used chopper new to you, I would also change the crosses in the chopper's drive shaft that drives your koomia adapter and especially if you plan on running a chopping head. | |
