Northeast Missouri
NAT sent me email notification of your "Reply" on this thread, which reminded me to add something...

Today I needed to grind some cattle feed. I had decided on the ration earlier with ingredient amounts on a per-head-per-day basis, which I had on a note in my shirt pocket: 17 pounds of ground corn, 2 lbs ground alfalfa hay, 1 lb. of 40% beef protein w/ monensin, and 1/2 pound feed-grade limestone. With the spreadsheet on my phone, I thought "Why not use it to calculate a 3,000 lb. mix of the ration?"

So I added ground corn, ground hay, 40% protein, and limestone to the Products table, each with an Application Unit of Measure of "lbs." then selected each of them on a batch ticket. I entered "1" for Acres (i.e., 1 head of cattle), then entered the amounts from the prior paragraph in the Application Rate column--the approximate amounts 1 animal should eat in a day.

I added a formula at the bottom of the Batch Qty Unit 1 column to calculate the total pounds of ingredients (20.5 lbs.), then I kept changing the Acres number until the total pounds was about 3,000. I ended up with 150 "Acres" yielding a 3,075 lb. batch of feed; 2,550 lbs. of corn, 300 lbs. hay, 150 lbs. of protein, and 75 lbs. limestone.

"Acres" here is actually the number of head-days. So this 3,075 batch should provide about 150 head-days if the cattle eat 20.5 lbs./day. It should feed my 5 head of fat cattle for about 30 days--likely a bit more, as they're not quite consuming 20 lbs./day.

The point is that you can use the Batch Ticket part of the spreadsheet to calculate any kind of batch.
