| I have a batwing shredder that has what the manufacturer calles cat 5. Its 3 lobe metric with cv joint. CV joint is shot and i decided i was going to just replace with a regular U-Joint.
Went to my local dealer and looked through what they had. They had a outer tube and the yokes and the cross. The old tube fit in the new yoke but when i got back to the shredder it will not slide onto the male side of the shaft. Its close but too tight. Visually i really thought they were the same. They have the same outside dimension but obviously the new tube is smaller on the inside.
The male shaft that is original to my shredder has a plastic coating on it. I think if i were to take the coating off it would be a good fit.
So my question is are there different series here? After rummaging through a full shelf of metric yokes and crosses and looking at the becknell/weasler counter pad that has all the metric sizes and such i cant make any sense of it. How do you make sense of the numbers (series) of these metric shafts? It definitely isnt as simple as a 35 or 55 u joint.
Any insite would be helpful. I can get some part numbers off the yokes in the morning possibly.
I am lost on this.
I will say that my old yoke used a 12mm diameter roll pin and the new one uses 10mm if that helps identify. One yoke was a 6068 series but the 540spline yoke was a totally different number. Maybe there is a metric driveline guru out there?
Edit to add
Maybe i should put the old cv back on and if i could match it up with somthing online just order a new cv. Not really fond of cv's anymore. How do you even measure a tri lobe tubing. My parts guys ar my local dealer obviously are not well trained on it and i guess i need to learn.
