Subject: RE: Burning old shingles?

E.Central MN
We had an old machine shed that the roof was rotting and falling in so we asked the county building department what we could do with it. They said if it was dangerous to tear it down then we could burn it on site. We ordered a dumpster and cut the roof into sections that fit into the dumpster. We tipped the roof sections upside down into the dumpster and knocked off the wood rafters/purlins and burned that wood in a wood fired boiler. The shingles and deck boards went to a county landfill that accepted building materials. The nice part was that we got rid of most of the old nails that way. Cost was reasonable, I don't think it's legal to bury stuff like that around here.
