The vro system is nice till it stops working and ruins your motor. I've been around the vro since late 90s. I was a omc guy till they sold out and went to a suzuki.
It's been awhile but if I remember right the no oil light is from a low level in your oil tank. I have my experience mostly with the v6 carb and a little with the fuel injection type (direct injection).
Check for contamination in your oil tank. Water or sluge in the bottom of tank. Check the float in the tank. If those are all good, wiring or gauge could be the problem. I have lost all my omc tricks since we don't run them anymore
