| Mostly droplet dispersion.
When I worked for some aerial applicators, we had water sensitive cards posted in the office, one of a ground rig at 10 gpa, and a plane at 3 gpa.
The ground rig card had a few big blotches on it. The air card had a nice dispersion of small drops.
Effectively, the plane can get buy with a lot less water. By altering the nozzle orientation and pattern, one could achieve a wide range of results. We would spray Dimilin for grasshopper control at 11 oz per acre, 8 of that being crop oil. 6 nozzles turned down at 90 degrees to the air flow, at the extreme outside ends of the boom. Picloram, would orientate the nozzles parallel to the air flow, and cut down the width for better control. | |
