Staying a medic means he most likely will make much less money and work a lot crappier jobs than being a fire based medic. Private ambo folks have a lot less opportunity for career advancement as well. If he's a stud medic, he might get the chance to be a flight medic, or work in a specialty like pediatric transfers or something like that. But that's really about it...
