Subject: Stock pond cleaning

EC North Dakota
How do I clean out stock ponds correctly?

I have one that’s dry and just sandy black dirt with no weeds or grasses. Just make it deeper until water comes in? Get it below the water table again or am I missing something? Is there an ideal depth to make it or one to avoid?

The other has 6” of water but is solid cattails. What’s the ideal depth to clean to or are there other considerations I need to plan for? This one used to over-flow down to the creek. Do I need an over flow outlet pipe while I have the hoe there, or just see what happens after cleaning?

Also have a water tank to replace. There’s a 1” steel pipe coming up out of a vertical 48” concrete culvert. The pipe used to free flow all year into the stock tank. Is there a simple way to get it flowing again or do I have to dig it all up and replace/repair?

TIA
