That will not be a popular video in this crowd.
I ran across such information several years ago.
At that time we had just transferred to a new young doctor because our old doctor retired. The new doctor seems to stay up on current research. I had noticed he didn't order a PSA test whereas my old doctor always did. When ask about it he says he has no problem ordering one for anyone who requests it but as a normal practice he does not. He felt it caused too many unneeded additional tests and biopsies. He could not find any compelling research that showed it to be a net benefit. For the few it helped there were many going through unnecessary tests and procedures. I have not had one since going to him.
Don't kill the messenger. He is a trained and licensed doctor and that was and is his opinion. Order tests when symptoms indicate. He may be wrong or right but at least he is not knife/needle happy. Seems like once a person gets a certain age and the doctors get them on schedules all old people do is go to the doctor or hospital for appointments. Half a dozen doctors want to see you every 3 or 6 months. Basically as often as Medicare will foot the bill. Just the way it is I guess.
I kind of like my doctor. I think he uses his head and he seems to follow what science there is available. Small private practice with no big medical institution guidelines he is obliged to follow.
