EC IL | 40’ single knife fd75 here for the last 12 years. We have broken one sickle bar in a washout that was too steep and put a bind on the whole head and it maxed out the flex.
What the others have pointed out about crossing rows can be managed by creeping into any situation where the whole head will cut at once(usually a corner), and by cutting at an angle into those corners. I seem to have it down to once per year or less now plugging the cutterbar. We are not pushing it for speed now with it on a Case 7230 but we did push it harder on a New Holland 9070.
Do not try to save money getting every last acre of life out of sickle sections nor sickle guards…they work 10x better with very sharp parts and when the sections are gapped correctly to the guards. | |
