We've had both on 40'. I don't remember a single time when we had a double drive specifically cut a 'tough' area of a field. The double drive no doubt will have a little more torque, it just seems the single does well enough it is not a problem. It seems like the dual is easier for one guy to change a sickle out if necessary. The center sections are a little more maintenance, but the later models don't seem as needy as a few models ago. Sickle heads probably a bit less needy on dual.
