Sioux County, NWIA | The Cummins/CDC 5.9 is a prominent example of a parent bore engine. They have a pretty good record of running to your 20-30,000 hour target, in many cases without an overhaul, and often with minimal maintenance. The bores on those engines can be bored oversize at least once, so that would get you up to 40-60,000 hours of service. And if the bores get too ugly or oversize, bore them way oversize and install dry liners, shades of the IH D361 and D407.
No liners to sink and have head gasket leaks, no liner O rings to fail and dump coolant in the oil, and much less prone to cylinder wall cavitation. | |
