West Central Iowa | I swear I read an article (service bulletin??) where JD blamed their counter-bore problems on CGI (Compacted Graphite Iron) cylinder liners and that they were harder than typical cast iron liners and were causing fretting erosion of the counter-bore. JD claimed the stainless steel liner shim was hard enough to act as a buffer and prevent the counter-bore erosion. I know the last 9.0L engine we rebuild had SS liner shims installed from the factory. I have never been able to find this information again.
Here is a very brief article on CGI.
