It's not a pain. Take your birth certificate and an ID. If you are clean you won't have problems. Currently in Ontario with 5 other people's kids. All have passports, but it wouldn't be necessary. I have been in multiple times with people without. Enhanced DL is better, but also not a deal breaker. Be nice, don't take anything dumb in, no radar detectors, you'll be fine.
