NWIL | The Wheatheart auger pits are no longer made.
I have one of those driveover pits as you describe. Works great for me, use it at five different bin setups. Got it probably 4-5 years ago and hardly see any wear on it. It fits my situation well as there are several bins where a belt would be too long to fit where I need to pull the semi through to unload. Good friend of mine has a driveover belt and in watching and talking with him I don't see it giving anymore capacity then what I'm getting. Unload into a 10" swing away and it usually match what the incline can take away, on corn that really is flowing well it sometimes doesn't keep the auger totally full, but close. I've gotten pretty good at setting it up now in that I drop it on the ground close to where its needed and I can drag it with a chain to exactly where I want it. Biggest hassle is jacking up the hitch end as there is some pretty good weight there and it needs to go up a decent ways, so now most of the time I just lift it with the loader thats on the auger tractor.
I wanted to go this way as it makes life a lot more simple for my truck drivers as opposed to swinging the swing auger underneath the hoppers, even with the powered wheels. Have tried both ways and all of us like just hitting the ramps best. An inground would be the best, but just not feasible to dig in that many of them, and with all these bins that I'm using it wouldn't be financially prudent by any means to quit using them and build a new setup. | |
