Looking to upgrade from r2300 Vermeer, looking a wheels rakes like darf or sitrex pro 17 or h&s  will I like it or be disappointed. Want to be able to jump windrows. What about a rotary rake?

I would rent the wheel rakes you mention before buying. Depends on what you are raking but a Vermeer Twin Rake, run correctly, can toss a windrow together better than some wheel rakes. I would look for wheel rakes that have the top of the rake wheel tipped out, which I think the above mentioned do. They will “loft” the crop much better than a vertical wheel.

If you are looking at the top end wheel rakes I would also look at the Rowse Ultimate with rubber mounted tines. The design of the Ultimate will follow the ground better than the Darf and such like designs.

I have no interest in rotary rakes. Too slow and too hard on alfalfa leaves. Look what hay producers in the west are using. It will either be a large wheel rake or large bar rake. The key to raking alfalfa quickly and gently is an oversized V rake.
