SC Wisconsin | We are a fan of Holiday Acres in Rhinelander, WI. It is directly on a lake, there is a swimming beach, you can go fishing, and if you are into it you can rent kayaks for super cheap. They are something like a couple bucks an hour.
We usually do the cabins, but have stayed in the hotel rooms too. They have a really nice restaurant on site too.
Its not a super fancy place, and has a bit of deferred maintenance that could be done. But it also feels like you are in a cabin up in the Northwoods, and not some fancy apartment.
