Nw Iowa
Here another inch last night plus what we got today. This will be one of few years in 40 some crop years for me that it will get too late to replant something. More rain predicted for next week. Two or three sunny days does not clear up 10-30 acre holes. I have never seen it so bad. It is to point that you know that no matter how good weather gets from here on out we will not beat Federal crop guarantee. I have been optimistic that we will get into replant but you can’t dry enough in two or three days to stay ahead of a 1 or 2” rain every 3 or 4 days. I have never seen so much rain since I started farming and we have spent last 50 years making massive improvements in drainage, tile, ditches, big county main projects etc. There is no place for water to go. I would be thrilled if we could plant by the 4th, I would be happy if we could plant some by the 10th, federal crops cut off day. After that it just doesn’t pay.
