NW IA | What's under the hood?
My first car in 1974 was a plain green '71 Torino with a 302 and partial white vinyl roof, AM radio, no AC.
$2150, 30K miles.
15 MPG was about all she'd do. I think I ran it for 6 years, not sure. Bought a Buick Century Special to get AC.
Someone hit the front corner of the Torino in a parking lot and I think I took the cash. A friend was looking for a cheap reliable car for an elderly aunt and my slightly crinkled Torino fit the description.
The old Torino was bullet proof. I don't remember it ever needing anything, it just ran (and with no air saved me a ton of miles and gas because nobody wanted to ride with me and we always used the other guys car).
I wouldn't take one back as a gift, but I get the cool factor of the Cobra. Thanks for stirring the memories. | |
